Batteries
The European Recycling Platform is leading the charge on waste battery recycling on the back of the launch of the new EU Waste Battery Directive.
ERP has launched battery take-back in the following countries: Austria, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy and Spain.
Final users of waste batteries are now entitled to leave the latter back free of charge, either to retail outlets selling equivalent batteries, or other authorised collection points, including local authority civic amenity sites.
ERP is taking the necessary steps to apply for a permit in the UK with a likely start of operations in 2010 (pending transposition of the batteries directive).
In France, Germany, Poland and Portugal, the decision has not been made yet to go into battery take-back.
Our pan-European members do not have to pay additional membership fees to use ERP battery take-back service however, their current membership fees will be amended to reflect their new tonnage band and matching fee.
Management costs will be applied according to the requirements of the local set-up.
