In response to the growing problem of excessive waste, several countries have adopted waste management policies in which manufacturers are responsible (producer responsibility) for taking back their products at the end of their life cycle or partially financing a collection and recycling infrastructure.
These are substances that contain contaminants that harm the environment and living organisms.
- Transfer Station
A transfer station is an intermediate site for the temporary collection of waste. Smaller collection vehicles deposit waste streams here that are then transferred by larger vehicles to treatment and recycling sites.
Treatment is defined as any activity carried out on WEEE after it has been collected for disassembly, shredding, recovery or preparation for disposal.
- Treatment Facility
A waste treatment facility is where waste is treated before final disposal (incineration or landfill).
