Green Alley Awards 2017

May 3rd, 2017

Circular economy opportunity for entrepreneurs

For the fourth year in a row, the Green Alley Award is encouraging young start-ups and entrepreneurs with a groundbreaking service, technology, product or awareness campaign to apply for the unique Circular Economy award by 25th July 2017.

All start-ups have to do is apply online.

The 2017 award is hosted by Green Alley; Germany’s crowdfunding pioneer, Seedmatch; the London Accelerator programme, Bethnal Green Ventures; and two new partners, H2 Compliance and R2PI, a Horizon 2020 project.

For the second year running, our colleagues at ERP Finland are also joining up with the Circular Economy stars of tomorrow by sponsoring this European business competition for green start-ups and eco-entrepreneurs. And this, in addition to their day job providing compliance, sustainability and consultancy support to customers.

“Becoming part of a Europe-wide start-up competition was something completely new to us last year,” says Olli Alanen, Country Manager of ERP Finland. “Step by step, we learned more and more about the Nordic start-up scene and the results exceeded our expectations: 191 applications from more than 50 countries! We even got to see a Finnish start-up, ResQ Club, pitching in the finals. By joining up with the award for the second time, we want to strengthen our partnerships from last year and encourage even more applications from the Nordics.”

Who is the award targeting?

The Green Alley Award 2017 is open to all start-ups with an idea relating to resource preservation, the circular economy, recycling, or even innovative ways of handling chemicals. The start-up can be at any stage of development so even business models in their very early stages or mock-ups and prototypes can apply.

What to keep in mind when applying?

“After judging all the different business models last year, I have one piece of advice: it’s important to customise your pitch deck as this is the first impression that the selection committee gets,” says Olli Alanen.

Once the application deadline closes on 25th July, ERP Finland, together with all the other partners, will review and evaluate the applications. The six most convincing start-ups will be invited to a one-day event in Berlin in November where, at the end of the day, the winner of the Green Alley Award 2017 will be announced.

What’s in it for the finalists and winner?

At the event, in early November, all finalists will be matched with industry experts and experienced start-ups with whom they will discuss their business ideas in customised coaching sessions. That evening, the finalists will get the chance to present their ideas live on stage in a 5-minute pitch to an international audience and jury.

The winner of the Green Alley Award 2017 will receive a prize package worth up to 30,000 EUR which includes a cash prize of 7,000 EUR, plus access to a broad network of circular economy experts and free tickets to SLUSH in Helsinki.
