ERP Portugal: 10th Anniversary
over 100,000 tonnes of WEEE, Batteries and Accumulators
ERP Portugal has celebrated the 10th anniversary of its foundation by reaching an important milestone. It has collected more than 100 thousand tonnes of WEEE, batteries and accumulators.
The last decade was also marked by the expansion of its collection network, which now reaches more than 1600 points throughout the country, the consolidation of its market share, which currently exceeds 36%, and an annual improvement on its yearly permit targets.
Ricardo Neto, President of ERP Portugal, explains “We have been consolidating our position as an effective structural market player in Portuguese economy and society, but we will also aim to expand to other segments. We now also have a licensing permit for packaging waste management, another significant step in the history of ERP Portugal.”
In 2014, ERP Portugal collected 148 tonnes of waste batteries and accumulators, including 77.5 tonnes of portable batteries and 70.6 tonnes of industrial ones.
In total, ERP Portugal reached a collection rate of 41.5% in the portable batteries waste (0.5% over its Permit target) and 102% in the collection of industrial batteries (2% over its Permit target). Moreover, ERP Portugal collected 14,911 tonnes of WEEE from private users, a 20% increase over 2013.
Last, but certainly not least, in 2014, ERP Portugal decreased the cost of its service fees by about 50% for EEE (Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Producers participating in ERP Portugal’s Integrated Management System.
