Draft Report on Batteries and Waste Batteries voted

March 8th, 2022

On Thursday 10 February 2022, the ENVI Committee voted on the draft report of Rapporteur Simona Bonafè (S&D) on the proposal for a regulation on batteries and waste batteries.

The draft report has a double aim:

  • provide clearer definitions concerning which batteries can be let into the market;
  • introduce minimum requirements for the content of recycled material presented in batteries.

Rapporteur Bonafè underlines the need for continued evolution of the legislation as technology advances. After the adoption in Committee, the report will be presented for vote in Plenary during the February Session.

The Committee also voted on the draft opinion on Green Bonds, presented by Rapporteur Bas Eickhout (Greens/EFA), the Annual Sustainable Growth Survey and the Guidelines for the 2023 Budget.
