Research Project into an Automated Battery Detection System
Researchers at the University of Limerick working with ERP Ireland and HAI
Researchers at the University of Limerick have asked ERP Ireland and the Hardware Association Ireland to assist them on the RoboCRM, a research project into an automated battery detection system for recycling facilities. Supported by CIRCULÉIRE Innovation Fund (Grant Number INF-2901-003-2021), the project is led by FPD Recycling and aims to use artificial intelligence and robotics to identify and separate items with batteries from the main WEEE waste stream. It is hoped the end result of this project will improve recycling efficiencies and help reduce potential hazards to human health.
CIRCULÉIRE is the National Platform for Circular Manufacturing, Ireland’s first industry-led innovation network dedicated to accelerating the circular economy. Irish Manufacturing Research (IMR) is the secretariat of CIRCULÉIRE which is funded by the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications (DECC), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and EIT Climate-KIC.
