The Environment Agency published the Q2 UK WEEE Compliance Data for 2024 on the 3rd September
The data demonstrates that the UK is making good progress to meet the 2024 WEEE collection targets for most streams.
EEE placed on the UK market (POM)
The table below demonstrates that over 22,500 tonnes more EEE was placed on the UK market (POM) compared to the same period last year (Q2 2023).

Q2 UK POM tonnages is up 6 % (overall) from this time last year. This is mainly due to the Small Mixed WEEE categories (Categories 2-10) being 10% up (over 11,700 tonnes) from Q2 2023 and Photovoltaic Panels (Category 14) up by 20%.
The Q2 POM tonnage for 2024 is the highest overall Q2 POM tonnage since 2007.

The charts below compare the volumes of EEE placed onto the UK market to each stream for quarter 2 over the last four years (2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024). Large Household Appliances (Category 1), Cooling Appliances (Category 12) and Display Equipment (Category 11) POM tonnages are stable. There is a sharp increase in the Small Mixed WEEE categories (Categories 2-10) while Gas Discharge Lamps & LED Light Sources (Category 13) POM tonnages appear to be steadily declining year on year.

WEEE collected
As the table below demonstrates, there was a 5% increase in WEEE collected in Q2 2024 vs Q2 2023.

Collections of Large Household Appliances (Category 1), Cooling Appliances (Category 12), Display Equipment (Category 11) and Small Mixed WEEE categories (Categories 2-10) all increased from this time last year. Overall collected tonnage in Q2 2024 was nearly 6,000 tonnes up than that collected in Q2 2023.
Q2 WEEE collected data for 2024 indicates the highest Q2 total for WEEE collected since 2021.

The charts below compare the volumes of WEEE collected for each stream in quarter 2 over the last four years (2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024). This is demonstrates that collections across all streams have increased for Q2 2024, besides Gas Discharge Lamps & LED Light Sources (Category 13).

Outlook for the compliance year
Looking at the Q2 2024 collection volumes against the collection targets for 2024, we see that most streams are on target or exceeding the targets.
Large Household Appliances (Category 1), Display Equipment (Category 11) and Categories 2-10 Small Mixed WEEE are all exceeding their targets. Cooling Appliances Containing Refrigerants (Category 12) is currently just under the expected target.
Gas Discharge Lamps & LED Light Sources (Category 13) and Photovoltaic Panels (Category 14) have got some catching up to do over the next couple of quarters - much the same as Q1 data, 2024.
