The Environment Agency published the Q3 2025 UK Battery data on 1st December 2025.
Portable batteries placed on the UK market (POM)
Q3 2025 saw an 11% increase (1,090 tonnes) in the volume of portable batteries being placed on the UK market (POM) from this time last year. There was an 12% increase (44 tonnes) in portable Lead Acid batteries, and an 11% increase (1,056 tonnes) in portable Others batteries.
The charts below compare portable batteries placed onto the UK market in quarter 3 over the last four years (2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025).
Waste portable batteries collected
The Q3 2025 waste portable batteries collection data shows a 16% decrease overall (-801 tonnes), with notable decreases in Lead acid (-47%), whilst there was a significant increase in Ni-Cd (125%) and ‘Other’ waste portable batteries being collected (43%), by over 640 tonnes.
In fact, the Q3 2025 collection data shows that there were more ‘Other’ waste portable batteries collected than ‘Lead acid’, only the second time this has happened, both times over the last two quarters.

Outlook for the compliance year
Based on the Q3 2025 data, the UK collection rate for 2025 is 37.05%, which is 82.33% towards to the 2025 target (45%), and seemingly on track to meet the 2025 UK target.
