A change to EU Regulation (2019/1021) on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) has
shaken WEEE re-processors in the UK with knock-on effects to compliance schemes
and their producer members.
As of July 2019, plastics from WEEE which contain POPs outside of the allowable threshold are recognised as hazardous waste and need to be processed to separate the plastics containing POPs. The resulting waste “must be destroyed or irreversibly transformed”.
