Extended Producer Responsibility
What is Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)?
Extended producer responsibility (EPR) is an environmental policy that makes the producer responsible for a product throughout its life cycle. It does this by making producers finance the collection, recycling, and end-of-life disposal of WEEE, batteries, accumulators, packaging, and other EPR product categories. This is done to mitigate the environmental impacts of products along the chain (from production to recycling).
In many countries, every company that first places a product subject to EPR requirements onto the market is considered a producer.
A producer can do this in three ways by:
Manufacturing products
Importing products (including online)
Selling products if you are not based in the country (including online)
