Starting 1 January 2025, all domestic and international companies – retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers, importers and online suppliers – placing textiles on the Dutch market must comply with extended producer responsibility (EPR) regulations and are financially responsible for managing textile waste.
2025 marks the first year that the Dutch authorities have set EPR textile targets – focusing on reduce, reuse and recycle – which companies must meet.
Every company placing textiles on the market must either set up an individual compliance scheme or join a producer responsibility organisation (PRO): there is no minimum threshold for small companies.
Here is a reminder of the textile products under the Dutch EPR regulations:
- Clothing: consumer clothing, corporate wear and workwear
- Household textiles: bedclothes, table linens and household fabrics
The following items are excluded:
- Shoes, belts, headwear, blankets, bedspreads, curtains and cleaning cloths
How to ensure compliance?
ERP Netherlands, part of Landbell Group, has established a PRO for textiles. The company is already trusted by some of the world’s leading textile brands and this market share allows it to set the standard and drive positive change within the industry.
ERP Netherlands makes compliance simple by handling the following obligations for companies:
- Registering your company with the authority
- Reporting your textile weight
- Setting up textile waste collection systems
- Running public awareness and education programmes on textile recycling, and
- Ensuring textiles are recycled or sold second-hand sustainably
The 1 January deadline is fast approaching. Please contact ERP Netherlands for expert guidance and support.
