Today we celebrate the 54th edition of Earth Day, an initiative to highlight the importance of our planet and the conservation of its ecosystems on all continents and oceans.
Today we celebrate the 54th edition of Earth Day, an initiative to highlight the importance of our planet and the conservation of its ecosystems on all continents and oceans.
The Earth Day Network recalls that 380 million tonnes of plastic are currently produced every year, while only 9% of the plastic produced so far has been recycled. Under the slogan "Planet versus Plastic", the Earth Day Network is calling for a 60 percent reduction in the use of this material by 2040 to help solve climate change.
The textiles industry can contribute to this mission as recycled fibres offer a promising way to reduce the use of virgin plastic in this sector, while addressing environmental concerns and meeting the growing demand for more sustainable products.
