Green Container
Glass is one of the most sustainable materials, as it can be recycled endlessly without losing quality. Thanks to the green container, we can give a second life to glass bottles and jars, reducing the extraction of raw materials and minimizing pollution.
What can you throw in the green container?
The green container is exclusively for glass waste, without lids or caps.
-
Glass bottles: such as water, wine, beer, spirits, etc.
-
Glass jars and containers: like those used for jams, sauces, or legumes.
-
Perfume and cologne bottles: as long as they’re made of glass.

Why is it important to recycle glass?
-
Reduces raw material extraction: Less need for natural resources like sand, soda ash, and limestone.
-
Saves energy: Melting recycled glass consumes less energy than producing new glass.
-
Less pollution: It lowers CO₂ emissions and reduces water and soil contamination.
-
Infinite reuse: Glass can be recycled over and over without losing quality.
What should not go in the green container?
Even if it looks like glass, not everything shiny is recyclable.
Do not dispose of:
-
Window glass or mirrors
-
Drinking glasses and crystalware: Their composition and melting point are different.
-
Ceramics, porcelain, or china: These are not glass and contaminate the recycling process.
-
Light bulbs and fluorescent lamps: These contain toxic elements and must go to a recycling center.
What happens to glass after recycling?
Once you dispose of glass in the green container, it goes through a highly efficient recycling process:
Collection and transport
Specialized trucks collect the waste and deliver it to recycling facilities.
Separation of impurities
At the plant, materials are sorted and any non-glass elements are removed.
Crushing and cleaning
The glass is then crushed and cleaned, resulting in cullet (clean crushed glass).
Transformation into raw material
The cullet is melted and turned into new glass containers.
This cycle can repeat indefinitely, avoiding waste production and promoting the circular economy.
Tips for proper recycling in the green container
Recycling glass is easy, but a few good habits can improve the process:
- Remove lids and caps before placing containers in the bin.
- Don’t mix in ceramics or mirrors, as they disrupt the recycling process.
- Avoid placing plastic bags in the green container—dispose of glass items directly into it.
