Galicia's Regional Minister of the Environment, Territory and Housing, Angeles Vazquez, presented the awards to the winning schools and pupils of the Pilabot competition, organized in collaboration with ERP, Ecopilas and Ecolec, in an event that took place in the Pedagogical Museum of Galicia (MUPEGA) in Santiago de Compostela in late June. Also present at the event, as representatives of the SCRAPs, were the CEO of ERP España, Laura Alonso, and Ecopilas marketing director, Julio Lema.

Over a period of almost three months that the competition lasted, framed within a campaign to raise awareness for selective collection of this type of waste among Galicia’s schoolchildren, 150 participating schools collected close to 44 tonnes of used batteries and accumulators. These figures “surpassed initial expectations,” according to the Minister. In fact, the quantities collected by the participating schools is even more significant if we compare it with the total data for batteries recovered in the region, equivalent to 20% of the 230.5 tonnes collected last year across Galicia.
