The Balearic Regional Minister of Environment and Territory of the Government, Miquel Mir; the Director General for Waste and Environmental Education, Sebastià Sansó; the Chairman of Ecopilas, José Pérez, and the companies and communication manager of European Recycling Platform (ERP), Iago García, this Thursday launched a campaign that over the coming two months will inform points of sale on their obligations in relation to the collection of waste batteries and accumulators.
Mir explained that Royal Decree 710/2015 stipulates that all autonomous communities must reach a minimum of 50% in collection of batteries and accumulators by the end of 2020. However, the latest data for the Balearic Islands, from 2018, indicate that only 26.60% has been reached, even though state average stands at around 40.65%. For this reason, he concluded, the decision has been taken to roll out the awareness and visibility campaign in commercial outlets.
