Castilla-La Mancha's Deputy Minister for the Environment, Fernando Marchán, opened the ceremony during which prizes were awarded to the two winning schools in the 5th edition of the 'Charge Your Batteries, Save The Planet' battery-collection campaign. Given the health emergency situation, this year's event took place virtually.

This year's campaign - organised by European Recycling Platform (ERP Spain) in partnership with Amiab - doubled the figures compared to the last edition, with almost a tonne of batteries being collected by 600 students from eight schools in Puertollano.

The winning schools this year were David Jiménez Avendaño Primary School (CEIP), with an average of 1.5 kg of batteries collected per pupil and Ramón y Cajal Primary School (CEIP), with 1 kg per pupil.
