The 'A Sea of Possibilities' campaign, launched in late July by European Recycling Platform (ERP) and Amiab Group, in partnership with the Regional Government of Murcia and Hostetur (the region's tourist accommodation association), has resulted in more than a tonne of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and batteries being collected in hotels in Mar Menor.

In total, 550 kg of batteries and 480 kg of waste small electrical and electronic equipment were collected. The campaign included the design of posters, leaflets and flyers in four languages, downloadable through a QR code to facilitate their dissemination via digital media - thereby respecting health restrictions.

In addition, 250 children took part in storytelling, word games and gardening workshops focused on environmental awareness raising at three establishments in the area: Camping Caravanning La Manga, and the Izan Cavanna and Bahia hotels. During the activities, 800 kg of WEEE materials were reused and given a new usable life. Specifically, for the cactus gardening activity, glass hatches from washing machine doors were used as flowerpots, and crushed cement from washing machine counterweights was used as drainage base. A different way to introduce kids to the importance of properly of this type of waste.
