What is Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)?

Extended producer responsibility (EPR) is an environmental policy that makes the producer responsible for a product throughout its life cycle.

It does this by making producers finance the collection, recycling, and end-of-life disposal of textiles, electrical and electronic equipment, batteries and accumulators, packaging, and other EPR product categories.

This is done to mitigate the environmental impacts of products along the value chain (from production to recycling).

In many countries, every company that first places a product subject to EPR requirements onto the market is considered a producer.
