The extended producer responsibility for packaging postponed 6 months

Important information regarding the extended producer responsibility for packaging in Denmark:

Today the Ministry of the Environment announced that they are postponing the entry into force of the extended producer responsibility for packaging in Denmark until expectedly July 1^st 2025. The entry into force was otherwise set for January 1^st 2025.

The decision means that the announced deadline in the first quarter of 2024 is also postponed for:

• producers' registration in the central producer register (DPA)
• reporting of expected marketed volumes of packaging for the whole of 2024
• choice of collective scheme

The new date for this has not yet been announced.

We would like to encourage you to continue the preparations as if nothing had happened. The previous effective date was, from our point of view, extremely compressed and difficult to implement in practice. We hope that with the new entry into force date, there will be a better overview of the practical process and greater clarity in what needs to be done for both producers, importers and collective schemes.
