Vape & E‑Cigarette Device Recycling

Vape and e-cigarette devices might be disposable but they should still be recycled!

As vaping user numbers increase, it is important to know how to dispose of used vapes responsibly. ERP Ireland offers FREE recycling of disposable, rechargeable vape and e-cigarette devices through our battery collection network.

Why recycle vapes?

Disposable and rechargeable vape and e-cigarette devices are consumer electronics and they contain single use or rechargeable batteries. Recycling batteries supports climate action and is good for the environment as it keeps them out of landfill, where heavy metals may leak into the ground, causing soil and water pollution.

Vapes contain a variety of materials, ranging from plastics to lithium, cobalt, nickel and manganese. By recycling, you are saving precious resources from going up in smoke! - and helping us to achieve a truly circular economy.

Each vape placed in the ERP battery recycling box will be taken apart and many of the materials will be recovered and used to make new products.

How to recycle vapes?

If you can remove the battery from your vape, take it out and recycle it separately. If you cannot remove the battery, recycle the whole item. Please ensure the liquid tank is removed prior to being placed in the ERP Battery collection box.

Where to recycle vapes?

Consumers may return waste vaping devices, free of charge, to any retail outlet that sells them when purchasing a new one or they can be disposed in the WEEE/Battery area at civic amenity sites.

ERP Ireland also offers free recycling of these devices through our battery collection network.  ERP battery recycling boxes are located at your local supermarket or recycling centre.

Retailers of Vapes & E-Cigarette Devices:

Retailers and Distributors are obliged to take back disposable, single-use, rechargeable vape and/or e-cigarette devices on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis in-store or on delivery.
