Have Your Say on Ireland’s Circular Future!

Second Whole-of-Government Circular Economy Strategy Launched …

Minister of State at the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, Alan Dillon, has launched a draft of Ireland’s Second Whole-of-Government Circular Economy Strategy (2026–2028) and is inviting input from interested parties through a public consultation. This process will help shape the final Strategy and inform longer-term policy development around the circular economy.

The Strategy will have a statutory basis and includes actions and targets for key sectors, as well as identifying cross-cutting measures with the greatest potential to drive meaningful progress in Ireland’s circular transition.

It will set the direction for how Ireland reduces waste, keeps resources in use for longer, and builds a more sustainable, resilient economy.

Whether you're a business, community group, or individual, your views will help shape Ireland’s circular economy journey.

Section 4.6: Electronics & Electronic Equipment outlines key actions, including:

  • Enhancing producer-led awareness campaigns to ensure WEEE is separately collected through all available channels, improving Ireland’s collection rate
  • Participating in the EU WEEE Directive review process as part of the proposed EU Circular Economy Act, ensuring new targets are fit for purpose and circular in approach
  • Supporting the development of circular electronic business models (e.g. lending, renting, leasing, repair, and servicing)
  • Providing support for repair cafés, sharing platforms/pay-as-a-service schemes, and local resource hubs/second-hand markets
