EU Consultation on Battery Removability Rules
Regulation requires that portable batteries in products be removable and replaceable
The European Commission has opened its ‘Have Your Say’ portal for feedback on a draft Delegated Regulation under Article 11 of the EU Batteries Regulation.
At its core, the Regulation requires that portable batteries in products be removable and replaceable by end users, supporting longer product lifespans and improved recycling outcomes. However, recognising safety and design constraints, certain products may be exempt - allowing battery removal by independent professionals only.
This latest initiative proposes to expand the list of exempted product categories, aiming to strike the right balance between safety, innovation, and circularity.
Stakeholders across industry are encouraged to engage.
The consultation is open until 26 May 2026.
