A significant milestone for the circular economy has been reached, with the Regulations transposing the EU Right to Repair Directive coming into effect on 31 July 2026.

The Directive is designed to make repair a more accessible, affordable and attractive option for consumers, helping to extend product lifespans, reduce waste and support the transition to a more circular economy.

Key measures include:

✅ Manufacturers of certain products covered by the Directive must offer repair services where repair is technically possible.
✅ Consumers will have greater access to repair services and repair information.
✅ For certain products, the Directive supports repair during and after the legal guarantee period. In Ireland, consumers generally have up to six years to pursue a claim in relation to faulty goods, in line with the statute of limitations.
✅The Directive applies to specific products listed in Annex II that are purchased after 31 July 2026. It also applies to products purchased before that date, provided they were repairable when first placed on the market and spare parts remain available.
Covered products include:

In Ireland, repairmystuff.ie will provide the basis for the national platform for this initiative. Managed by Monaghan County Council, the platform helps consumers find repair providers across a wide range of product categories, supporting repair, reuse and waste prevention.

At ERP Ireland, we welcome the implementation of the Directive and its potential to strengthen Ireland's repair and reuse sector, keep products in use for longer, reduce waste, and advance the transition to a more circular economy.

♻️ Repair. Reuse. Reduce Waste. Recycle.
