Preparing for the Digital Batteries Passport

The European Commission has published new guidance to support preparations for the Digital Batteries Passport, a key requirement under the EU Batteries Regulation.

The guidance sets out 71 battery passport data points for electric vehicle (EV), light means of transport (LMT) and industrial batteries, helping manufacturers, importers and other stakeholders understand the information that will be required and when.

From 18 February 2027, EV batteries, LMT batteries and industrial batteries above 2 kWh placed on the EU market must be accompanied by a Digital Battery Passport. The new guidance is intended to promote a consistent approach across the battery value chain and support organisations in preparing their systems, processes and reporting practices ahead of implementation.

For Irish producers and importers, early preparation will be essential ahead of the February 2027 deadline.
