O que são pilhas portáteis?

As pilhas ou acumuladores são quaisquer fontes de energia elétrica geradas por conversão direta de energia química e constituídas por uma ou mais células primárias (não recarregáveis) ou por uma ou mais células secundárias (recarregáveis).

A maioria dos tipos de pilhas contém metais pesados tóxicos, incluindo o níquel, o cádmio e o mercúrio. Todos estes metais podem ser recuperados e reutilizados.

A reciclagem de pilhas é benéfica para o ambiente, uma vez que as mantém fora dos aterros, onde os metais pesados podem infiltrar-se no solo, causando poluição do solo e da água e pondo em perigo a vida animal e vegetal. Se as pilhas forem incineradas juntamente com o lixo doméstico, os metais pesados que contêm causam poluição atmosférica.

Large domestic appliances

This category includes appliances such as washing machines, cookers, dishwashers and tumble dryers.

The first stage of recycling is decontamination: cables and other electrical components are removed; ballasts, plastics, iron compounds and other metals are separated and recovered. These materials are then sent for further processing and recovery.
