Consultancy does not recommend further substance restrictions in RoHS
Germany’s Öko-Institute has completed assessments for the European Commission on a number of substances present in electrical and electronic equipment. The Commission is working on creating guidelines restricting which substances can be present in new electronic devices, and in which concentration.
The substances assessed by Öko-Institute include cobalt dichloride and cobalt sulphate; nickel sulphate and nickel sulfamat; beryllium and its compounds; and indium phosphide. The assessments conclude that these substances should not be restricted, as this could have negative impacts on Europe’s economy. Öko-Institute has called on third parties to comment on the assessments in order to better understand the effects that different restrictions could have.
