The European Commission has launched the Digital Product Passport Registry and a testing environment for economic operators. The Registry will act as an EU-level indexing service for Digital Product Passports and is an important part of the DPP framework established under the EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation.

The Registry will hold unique product identifiers, registration information and specified metadata rather than the complete product information contained in individual passports. The underlying product data will remain decentralised and under the responsibility of the respective companies.

📌 What does this mean for businesses? Where a Digital Product Passport is required under EU legislation, it must be registered before the product is placed on the EU market. Now is the time to: ✅ Assess the product data you already hold ✅ Identify gaps in information and traceability ✅ Establish processes for collecting and validating supplier data ✅ Ensure information can be maintained as products and supply chains evolve

Digital Product Passports will play an increasingly important role in supporting transparency, compliance, repairability, circularity and end-of-life management across a range of product categories, including batteries, electronics, textiles and more.
