The Environment Agency published the Q3 2024 UK WEEE data on 1st December 2024
The data continues to demonstrate that the UK is making very good progress to meet the 2024 WEEE collection targets in most streams.
EEE placed on the UK market (POM)
The table below demonstrates that nearly 8,000 tonnes more EEE was placed on the UK market (POM) when comparing against the same period last year (Q3 2023).

Q3 2024 UK POM tonnages have increased from the same time as last year; 2% overall, mainly due to increases in Large Household Appliances (Category 1) by 3%, Display Equipment (Category 11) by 8% and the Small Mixed WEEE categories (Categories 2-10) by 7%. An increase of over 14,400 tonnes for these three streams alone.
The Q3 2024 UK POM data demonstrates that the Q3 POM tonnages appears to be increasing for the first time since 2020/2021, which was during the pandemic.

The charts below compare the volumes of EEE placed onto the UK market for each stream in quarter 3 over the last four years (2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024).
Large Household Appliances (Category 1), Cooling Appliances (Category 12), Display Equipment (Category 11) and especially the Small Mixed WEEE categories (Categories 2-10) have all increased in Q3 2024. Gas Discharge Lamps & LED Light Sources (Category 13) have decreased.

WEEE collected
As the table below demonstrates, there was a 6% increase in WEEE collected across all streams in Q3 2024 vs Q3 2023.

Collections of Large Household Appliances (Category 1), Cooling Appliances (Category 12), Display Equipment (Category 11) and Small Mixed WEEE categories (Categories 2-10) increased from the same time last year. The collected tonnage for Q3 2024 was over 7,300 tonnes more than that collected in Q3 2023.
Q3 2024 WEEE collected data indicates the highest quarter 2 total WEEE collected since before 2021.

The charts below compare the volumes of WEEE collected for each stream in quarter 2 over the last four years (2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024). Demonstrating collections across all streams have increased in Q3 2024.

Outlook for the compliance year
Reviewing Q3 2024 collection volumes against the collection targets for 2024, most streams are exceeding the targets.
Large Household Appliances (Category 1), Cooling Appliances (Category 12), Display Equipment (Category 11) and Small Mixed WEEE (Categories 2-10) are all exceeding their targets. Gas Discharge Lamps & LED Light Sources (Category 13) and Photovoltaic Panels (Category 14) have got some catching up to do over the final quarter of 2024, as was the case after Q1 and Q2 2024.
In conclusion, collection volumes have increased in Q3 2024, following a similar trend in recent years. Tonnage reported across Q1-Q3 in 2024 has increased based on the same periods in 2021, 2022 and 2023. This is noticeable with Cooling Appliances (Category 12), which was slightly down at 49% after Q2 2024 data was published. It is currently exceeding its target at 77%.
