ERP UK events for compliance sector

Extended Producer Responsibility events for compliance professionals: As we move into the second quarter of 2026, compliance professionals across the UK face fresh challenges in environmental regulation and circular economic development. That’s why between April and June, we are delivering an extensive programme of ERP UK events, webinars and industry engagement designed to help businesses navigate the evolving landscape of EPR.

Whether you're grappling with producer obligations for WEEE regulations, preparing for EPR packaging modulated fees, or simply trying to stay ahead of regulatory changes, Q2 offers multiple opportunities to connect with expertise, gain practical insights and position your organisation for long-term compliance success.

ERP UK free webinars: building your compliance knowledge

Throughout Q2, ERP UK is delivering a comprehensive programme of free webinars designed to demystify complex regulations and provide practical, actionable guidance.

EPR packaging modulated fees webinar - 7 May

One of the most anticipated sessions of the quarter, this webinar addresses the EPR packaging modulated fees that are reshaping how businesses approach packaging compliance. Registration opens at the end of April, and places are expected to fill quickly.

The modulated fee structure represents a fundamental shift in how packaging waste is managed and funded. Rather than flat-rate contributions, businesses now face fees that reflect the environmental impact of their packaging choices. Understanding how these fees are calculated, what triggers higher rates, and how to optimise your packaging strategy can deliver significant cost savings while supporting sustainability objectives.

This session will break down the fee structure, explain the methodology behind modulation, and provide practical examples of how different packaging choices affect your compliance costs. For businesses handling substantial packaging volumes, this knowledge translates directly into bottom-line impact.

WEEE regulations: producer and distributor obligations - 14 & 21 May

Two complementary webinars in May address different aspects of WEEE compliance.

The 14 May session focuses on producer obligations, covering everything from scoping and categorisation to data collection and reporting requirements for companies making electrical equipment in, importing or distance selling to, the UK. The 21 May session shifts focus to distributor and retailer obligations, particularly the take-back requirements that apply to companies supplying directly to consumers. Take care - a company may be a Producer, a Distributor, or both according to its business activities.

Obligations for businesses under the WEEE regulations continue to evolve, and staying current with requirements is essential for avoiding non-compliance penalties. These sessions are particularly valuable for anyone new to compliance roles or businesses expanding into electrical and electronic equipment for the first time.

The distributor session addresses a frequently misunderstood area of compliance. Many retailers and online sellers don't realise they have specific take-back obligations when supplying EEE to end users. Understanding these requirements, implementing practical collection systems, and ensuring proper reporting can prevent costly compliance failures.

Battery regulations training - 14 & 21 May

Running parallel to the WEEE sessions, these webinars cover battery compliance from scoping and categorisation of batteries through to producer obligations and reporting requirements. With battery technology evolving rapidly and appearing in an ever-wider range of products, understanding your obligations has never been more important.

Battery compliance extends beyond traditional consumer batteries. From power tools to e-bikes, from medical devices to industrial equipment, batteries are everywhere. Each category brings specific compliance requirements, and the sessions will help you identify which obligations apply to your business and how to meet them efficiently.

ERP UK is proud to sponsor the Circular Economy Success category at the annual Awards for Excellence in Recycling & Waste Management. This event is taking place at The JW Marriott Grosvenor House, in London on 13 May. This prestigious industry event celebrates innovation and best practice across the waste management sector. National Letsrecycle Conference - 4 June

The National Letsrecycle Conference at The Landmark Hotel, London in early June, provides a crucial forum for discussing Extended Producer Responsibility and circular economy principles. With the sector anticipating the delayed Circular Economy Growth Plan, this conference offers timely discussions on how businesses can prepare for the policy framework that will shape UK waste management for years to come.

ERP UK's team will be available for pre-arranged meetings to discuss specific compliance needs. These face-to-face conversations often prove invaluable for businesses seeking clarity on technical requirements or strategic guidance on compliance planning.

If you're attending the Awards for Excellence in Recycling & Waste Management or the National Letsrecycle Conference, consider arranging a meeting with the ERP UK team. These face-to-face conversations often provide the clarity and strategic guidance that's difficult to achieve through other channels.

Special focus: the Circular Economy Growth Plan

Expected publication: May 2026

The UK's Circular Economy Growth Plan, originally scheduled for Autumn 2025 and then pushed to "early 2026", is now expected to be published in May. This delay has created both uncertainty and opportunity for forward-thinking businesses.

Developed by the Circular Economy Taskforce established in November 2024, the plan[2] will set out detailed roadmaps for five priority sectors: Textiles, Transport, Construction, Agri-food, and Chemicals & Plastics. Each roadmap will include specific actions, timelines and policy measures designed to accelerate the UK's transition from a linear 'take-make-dispose' economy to a circular model where materials remain in circulation at their highest value.

What this means for your business

The Circular Economy Growth Plan represents more than regulatory change. It signals a fundamental shift in how the UK approaches resource management, waste reduction and economic development. The plan aims to stimulate green job creation, improve resource efficiency, accelerate net zero goals and reduce consumer costs through more durable, repairable products.

For businesses, this creates both compliance obligations and competitive opportunities. Early adopters of circular principles often find they can reduce costs, mitigate supply chain risks, enhance brand reputation and meet growing customer demand for sustainable products. The businesses that wait for regulatory enforcement typically face higher costs and more disruptive operational changes.

Preparing now for the Circular Economy Growth Plan

While we await the final plan, businesses can take practical steps to prepare:

  • Conducting waste audits identifies reduction and recycling opportunities.
  • Rethinking packaging strategies to incorporate higher recycled content and improve recyclability reduces both EPR costs and Plastic Packaging Tax liability.
  • Designing products for durability and repair builds customer loyalty whilst reducing waste. Engaging supply chains on transparency, traceability and recycled content creates resilience.

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) recently shared this QR code for interested parties to receive updates on the Circular Economy Growth Plan:

Why Q2 2026 matters for compliance professionals

The second quarter of 2026 represents a convergence of regulatory development, industry engagement and practical learning opportunities. The expected publication of the Circular Economy Growth Plan will set the policy direction for years to come. The ongoing implementation of EPR packaging modulated fees continues to reshape packaging compliance. WEEE regulations producer obligations remain a critical concern for anyone manufacturing, importing or distributing electrical equipment.

Against this backdrop, ERP UK's programme of events, workshops and webinars provides the expertise and practical guidance that compliance professionals need. Whether you're attending industry events to network with peers and discuss specific challenges, or joining webinars to build technical knowledge, these opportunities help you stay ahead of regulatory change rather than constantly catching up.
