Portable batteries placed on the UK market (POM)
Q1 2025 saw a 1% decrease (130 tonnes) in the volume of portable batteries being placed on the UK market (POM) from the same time last year. There was an 8% increase (30 tonnes) in portable Lead Acid batteries, and a 2% decrease (140 tonnes) in portable Others batteries.
The charts below compare portable batteries placed onto the UK market in quarter 1 over the last four years (2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025).
Waste portable batteries collected
The Q1 2025 waste portable batteries collection data shows a 25% overall increase from this time last year (Q1 2024), mainly due to large increase in waste portable Others batteries collections (58%).
In fact, the Q1 2025 total waste portable batteries collection volume of 6,715 tonnes is the highest Q1 collection volume on record.

Outlook for the compliance year
Based on the Q1 2025 data, the UK collection rate for 2025 is 19.06%, which is 42.36% towards to the 2025 target (45%), and seemingly on track to meet the 2025 UK target.
