Portable batteries placed on the UK market (POM)
Q2 2025 saw a 3% increase (223 tonnes) in the volume of portable batteries being placed on the UK market (POM) from this time last year. There was an 24% increase (81 tonnes) in portable Lead Acid batteries, and a 2% increase (134 tonnes) in portable Others batteries.

The charts below compare portable batteries placed onto the UK market in quarter 2 over the last four years (2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025).




Waste portable batteries collected
The Q2 2025 waste portable batteries collection data shows a 13% decrease overall (-698 tonnes), with notable decreases in Lead acid (-40%) and Ni-Cd (-34%), whilst there was a significant increase in ‘Other’ waste portable batteries being collected (49%), by over 800 tonnes.

In fact, the Q2 2025 collection data shows that there were more ‘Other’ waste portable batteries collected than ‘Lead acid’, this is the first time this has happened!

Outlook for the compliance year
Based on the Q2 2025 data, the UK collection rate for 2025 is 29.51%, which is 65.58% towards to the 2025 target (45%), and seemingly on track to meet the 2025 UK target.
